Gifted & Talented (GT)

Grades K-12

El Paso ISD tests all 2nd graders for GT. In K, 1st and 3rd-12th grade, students are tested if they are referred by parents or staff or reach the 95th percentile on the beginning-of-year NWEA MAP reading or math pre-screener. Testing uses the CogAT, then a classroom creativity assessment for students who meet the CogAT criteria, plus parent and teacher surveys; a campus committee decides holistically. The districtwide referral window is August-October (kindergarten can also be referred in January); fall testing runs September-November and kindergarten testing in January.
