Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

Grades K-5

FUSD serves GATE students through differentiated instruction in the regular classroom. The district stopped CogAT testing for GATE after funding was cut in February 2020 and gives no GATE eligibility test this year. In 2026/2027, fifth graders not identified earlier can be considered through a professional judgment process after a teacher or parent nomination.

Published criteria

  • No test or cutoff this year: identification is by professional judgment after a nomination; the principal meets with the teacher, student and parent. source

Deadlines

  • GATE nomination form (grade 5) (2026-12-14): A teacher or parent gives the completed nomination form to the principal by December 14, 2026. source
