Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)

Grades K-12

Every third grader takes the CogAT as a universal screener in the spring, and results build each school's screening list. Grades 3-5 need 30 points from aptitude, achievement, portfolio work samples and/or a learner profile. K-2 students can be referred and tested individually.

Published criteria

  • Intellectually Gifted (IG): 30 points from the aptitude score alone, which takes the 96th percentile or higher (age norms; local norms at schools where 5% or fewer students are identified). source
  • K-2: CogAT Verbal and/or Quantitative at the 96th percentile or higher leads to an individual achievement test (Woodcock-Johnson); identification needs 40 combined aptitude and achievement points. source
