Gifted and Talented (GT)

Grades K-12

All Irving ISD kindergartners are screened without a referral: teachers use the Kingore Observation Inventory and open-ended activities in the fall, and every kindergartner takes an aptitude/reasoning test in late fall. In other grades a parent, teacher, counselor, administrator or the student can refer (the district starts a referral only if the parent requests it); screening is in the 3rd and 4th six weeks and selection in the 5th. Students need the superior range on two of three criteria (aptitude, achievement, portfolio).
